June 6, 1944

D-Day, also called Operation Overlord was a huge success. The plan of Operation Overlord was to trick the German forces into thinking the Allies were landing in Calais which was a complete lie, so when the Allied forces landed in Normandy they took the Axis by complete surprise.

The main goal of D-Day was to liberate Europe from the Nazi’s control. D-Day happened on June 6, 1944, the 75th anniversary of D-Day was not to long ago actually. On D-Day 156,000 allied troops landed on 5 beaches along a 50 mile stretch of land which was heavily fortified by the Axis

D-Day was one of the largest amphibious military assaults of all time and required a tremendous amount of planning. Before D-Day the Allies made a plan to deceive the Nazis so the Allies didn’t face as much resistance. D-Day is commonly called the beginning of the end, as in D-Day was the start to the end of the war and that the war would soon be over.
